Basic Manchu

Manchu is a Tungusic language that is usually spoken in Northeast China and Russia. It was once the official language of the Qing Dynasty court, before it was overwhelmed by the Chinese language. Now only a few elderly people can master it, despite the language being taught to some children (and enthusiasts).

If you would like to at least use a bit of Manchu, perhaps to impress the locals (who primarily use Mandarin Chinese) or your friends (or to imagine some of the people of the Qing Dynasty), here are some basic words:

Si saiyūn? (shee sai-yuun) - How are you?
Bi umesi sain. (bee oo-mer-shee sa-een) - I am very fine.
Sini {beye dursun} sain nio? (shee-nee {ber-yer doorr-soon} sa-een nee-o) - How is your {health}?
Baniha. (bah-nee-KHah) - Thank you.
Si oci [X] inuo? (shee oh-chee [X] ee-noo-woh) - Are you (a/an) [X]?
Inu. (ee-noo) - Yes. (also means "is also")
Waka. (vah-kah) - No.
Ere oci we i {bithe}? (Er-rer oh-chee wer ee {beet-KHer}) - Whose {book} is this?
Sirame acaki! (shee-rah-mer ah-cah-kee) - See you later!

Aba? (ah-bah) - Where?
Ai? (ai) - What?
Aibi? (ai-bee) - What place?/Where?
Aibide? (ai-bee-der) - At/To what place?
Aici? (ai-chee) - What kind (of thing/person)?
Adarame? (ah-dah-rah-mer) - How?
Udu? (oo-doo) - How many?
We? (ver) - Who?
Ya? (yah) - What?/Who?
Yaba? (yah-bah) - What place?/Where?
Yabade? (yah-bah-der) - At/To what place?

Takarakū. (tah-kah-rah-kuu) - {I} don't/doesn't know [this person].

Minde (meen-der) - At me
Sinde (sheen-der) - At you

Ere (er-rer) - This
Tere (ter-rer) - That

Ere [X] oci {mini} [Y] - This [X] is {my} [Y]

Jai (jai) - And

Mujakū (moo-jah-kuu) - Very

([X, Y, Z...] {X, Y, Z...}- replace whatever that is inside these brackets/X, Y, Z... with other words)
